Jul. 9th, 2006 01:50 amA couple of excellent stories I've read recently:
Die in the Ether Peripheries
Without a Trace, Post s5. Explicit sex. Danny/Martin.
Bridgette Myers disappeared somewhere between work and her apartment. Twenty-eight year old administrative assistant, live-in boyfriend worried and crying for her. "Ran, snatched or other?" Danny glanced at Martin as they drove to her work.
"Don't assume anything," Martin said.
Even if you've never seen an episode of Without a Trace, you should check out this story. Just read the first few paragraphs - that's not much of a commitment! Only I'm pretty sure that once you read those first few, you won't be able to not read the rest, so awesome is this story. The writing is elegant and clean, and I was really impressed by its structure - each section is 100 words. This impressed me for two reasons: First: That's hella hard! Second: It's really unobtrusive. I didn't notice it while I was reading, and later I saw the structure mentioned in a comment somewhere else. Either I'm really unobservant or the story was really involving - I'm going with the latter.
Seriously, though, it's an amazing story.
Wave If You See Me From Afar
Superman Returns, Lois Lane
After a week goes by, you bite off every single one of your fingernails except the one on your right pointer finger, because you need something to drum on your desktop or else you'll go insane.
The story looks at what happened in Lois's life while Superman was gone, and it's difficult to describe the story in great detail without risking revealing spoilers for the movie, so I'll leave the plot description at that. I was impressed when I just looked at the story post again and saw that this had been posted only two days after the movie was released - it doesn't feel rushed at all to me, and she does a good job with all of the characters, especially Lois, who I liked a lot in the movie.
